WEST MICHIGAN ELITE/MEIJER AAA HOCKEY AWARDED TIER 1 GIRLS DESIGNATION FOR 2017/18 SEASON

LANSING, MI - The West Michigan Elite Hockey Club (WMEHC) is proud to announce its designation as a Tier 1 Girls program for the 2017/18 season. West Michigan Elite Hockey/Meijer AAA was awarded the designation along with Honeybaked, Little Caesars and Belle Tire.

“We are extremely excited to have been chosen as a girls Tier 1 program. Our overall goal is to not only become a destination for elite players, but to help grow the girls game outside of the Metro Detroit area,” said WMEHC Director, Tom Berry. “(Our Girls Program Director) Kevin Miller has done an exceptional job with our girls program this season, and we are excited to continue to build on the momentum by continuing to focus on the development of girls playing our game.”

The deadline was November 1, 2016 and seven associations submitted applications for consideration based on designated criteria set forth by the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) Girls/Women’s Committee for the four Tier 1 designations awarded.

A detailed review and applicant comparison by the sub-committee against weighted criteria included:
  • Coaching, Player Development, and Player Advancement
  • The ability to field teams at all levels (14U/16U/19U)
  • Feeder – program/associations
  • Growth initiative

West Michigan Elite Hockey Club teams play under the Meijer AAA Hockey name, and currently field girls teams in the following age classifications: 12U, 14U, 16U and 19U. “Our intention is to aggressively participate in girls hockey growth initiatives with all of our affiliate associations to help them have thriving Tier 2 and Tier 3 girls programs in the years to come. And we want to start that partnership immediately,” said Berry.
