Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as West Michigan Hounds 18U defeated San Jose Jr. Sharks 18U in a shootout 3-2.

The two teams needed two turns to complete the shootout.

West Michigan Hounds 18U overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. West Michigan Hounds 18U was down 2-1 after a goal by San Jose Jr. Sharks 18U's unknown at 14:06 in the third period. West Michigan Hounds 18U tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cory Day at 16:58 in the third period.

West Michigan Hounds 18U put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow San Jose Jr. Sharks 18U to score on any of its five power plays.

West Michigan Hounds 18U was helped by Christian Howard, who racked up one goal. Howard scored 12:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 West Michigan Hounds 18U. In addition, West Michigan Hounds 18U received assists from Collin Finkhouse, who had one.

San Jose Jr. Sharks 18U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight West Michigan Hounds 18U power plays. San Jose Jr. Sharks 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.
